在创作沙滩上的艺术，比如沙滩画、沙雕艺术，无论表现得如何精彩，其生命周期总是短暂的，或是一阵风雨、或是一次拍浪，都如大浪淘沙、让其消失得无影无踪……也许只有一种沙滩上的艺术可以除外。
来自英国的乔恩·福尔曼（Jon Foreman）在大学期间第一次接触大地艺术（Land Art）后就立即狂热地爱上了它。
福尔曼认为自然世界中还有太多值得探索的地方，比如他所居住的威尔士（Wales）彭布罗克郡（Pembrokeshire）。这里有着漫长而宽阔的海岸线，在海边有数不清的石头，从微小的鹅卵石到大块的石头应有尽有。他利用这些天然的石头摆放出的造型总是令人着迷，更令海边的游客们惊叹不已。
福尔曼说：“虽然我可以使用更多的天然材料创造作品，但事实证明，石材是我能最好地操纵的材料，无论是它的颜色、角度、形状、大小、位置以及间距。”
事实上，在创作每件作品之前，他仅仅有一个粗略的构想，有时甚至是一无所知、毫无想法，在创作的过程也难免迷失方向，不过，最终的成果总是令人兴奋的！
